pondering a new art (pottery)

Yesterday I wrote here about not writing—how there will now be a long stretch of time when my in-progress novel slumbers.  Things are what things must be.  The real world calls.

Thanks to a gift from my husband, however, I will still make time, a few hours each week, to make something new.  I won't be using words.  I'll be using my hands.  Think of me (beside my husband) at a pottery wheel.  I'm thinking of this as a necessary relief valve in a life that will have me working through many a night.

I'll share what I learn about hands and craft here.  As I (hopefully) learn it.

  1. I'm looking forward to you sharing your experience, Beth. I haven't done any ceramics, but I love working with encaustics.

  3. I gave Jay pottery classes a couple years ago. He made such beautiful things.

  4. What a wonderful gift! I imagine you could be good at forming a shape out of a blob of clay as you are so good at molding ordinary words into beautiful books. Enjoy!

  5. Hello Beth! What a wonderful gift, hopefully you can also share with us your experience and the artwork you made using the potter's wheel. :) I agree with Sarah, you are good at molding ordinary words into beautiful books, so I think this would not be a problem forming a shape out of a clay :) Thank you for sharing this post and will follow you more to check in your progress with the wheel hehe!
