Teacher Resources
School Visits:
I can often be found within classrooms conducting writing workshops and engaging others in conversations about the writing life.
I've introduced middle school and high school students to the making of memoir, engaged with young poets keen on extending their craft, conducted teach-the-teachers sessions, and sat with high school seniors consulting on the realities of the writer's life. I've talked research, rejection, and staying true. I've taken students behind the scenes and back to the pages of stories I have both loved and written. I'm equally comfortable in large lecture halls and intimate classrooms. I've visited classrooms electronically and via my blog.
Honorarium:
$750 - $1,000 plus expenses for a full day; $500 plus expenses for a half day.
Teacher's Guide:
For teachers who wish to teach Dangerous Neighbors on their own, I created a multi-dimensional guide that offers a wide range of individual, team, and classroom projects. Please visit this link.
For teachers of memoir, I invite you to view my Handling the Truth: on the writing of memoir page, where I share exercises and memoir readings not in the book proper. Handling the Truth is due out August 6, 2013).
