Aww I know how you feel. My brother went to college last weekend and I miss him! My family and I always feel so sad whenever we drive by him towards the exit of the college campus. My mom cried, just like last year (the first time he went to college, his a sophomore now) when we dropped him off on Saturday. We're all can't wait until the next break he has so we can visit him!

I loved your first vlog. I'm looking forward to all the new things you mentioned!

It's amazing what you are doing. I've always been a shy person so I truly appreciate the way you are putting yourself out here. (so shy that if I had come to a signing for Undercover, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell you how much I loved the book! Thank goodness you discovered my blog!)

I have just one request. Please, please, please vlog some passages from UNDERCOVER and HOUSE! :-)

yay! how brave--I'm not going to be doing that for a while yet. I look forward to more of your vlogs!

but I'd like to make a little suggestion: quieter music--if you feel the need to use it at all. the music that was at the end of this vlog nearly drowned out your last couple sentences.

I am so grateful for the comments here (and for the ones that came in via email, thank you Tom and Jennie).

I'm still finagling with this software. I want to do fade ins and soft transitions and softer music and all the things that make for better visual and vocal art.

(or for art, to begin with)

I'm so grateful to you for bearing with me as I try to get (more) of this right. When I saw the vlog posted I reminded myself of the Jesse James movie I watched the other night. There were Brad Pitt and Casey Afleck, working off a Ron Hansen book. I should have been glued. Instead, I found myself saying to my husband, repeatedly:

What did they say?

What?

Wait. What?

Very, very beautiful! I especially like the part about imagining you are your words; it makes me think of a friend of mine.
Please do more vlogs, and I agree with Em!

What a lovely message. I can relate to the odd feeling of exposure that comes from stepping out beyond the words on the page. It's so good that you did, though, because this kind of gracious authenticity is the Web at its best and highest purpose. Looking forward to more vlogs!

Thank you for a lovely hello! You are very brave to do this and I applaud you. I bet your son is going to be so proud!

A beautiful hello, Beth! I'm amazed by the smoothness of your image and sound, where I clunk along at vlogging.

I look so forward to more!

Four kids have gone off to college. The last one left last week for his sophomore year. Despite my "experience", I miss him. The only thing about cell phones I like is that I can call and text all the time. They grow up. They come back. They are always our kids.

This vlog is a great way to express yourself and you've done a marvelous job. I look forward to watching more and hopefully being inspired to the same.
