The Photographer at Work

Because turnaround really is sometimes fair play, I post a photo that Leslie Kase has now sent my way—me behind the camera Saturday, freezing young dancers for eternity's sake.

We have a good time, those of us who join in for the Dancing Classrooms Philly extravaganza—getting lost on flights of stadium stairs, corralling children, begging for just half of that salty soft pretzel, and urging the make-up lady to shower us with a smidgen of her glitter. Finally we step back and then: the show belongs to children.

You can't hear it, but imagine this: An entire basketball stadium's worth of screamers, urging the gallant on. Calling out school names. Calling out dancers. Waving signs the size of four people.

Better than basketball on a good day.

Aww...you're so cool. Love the skirt. (I'm just a little envious of that lens, too.)

What an event - thanks for sharing.

That skirt is so striking.

What kind of camera do you have?

I can imagine what it must feel like.

Well, okay, okay. I'm copping. I have a Sony alpha 700. That is my 28 to 300 zoom. I also have a wide angle lens and a macro lens, and I have these things because, when my mother passed away, and some money was left to me, I thought: What would make me happiest and remind me, always, of her.

This camera does that.

What a lovely way to remember someone you love.

Beautiful in that skirt of red. You are a firecracker, after all.

And can I be so nosy as to ask, what did you set your camera on? I often have problems shooting indoors. Was the gym light enough? (Enough with the questions?)

Ooh. A serious camera. I'm looking at a Canon SX 10. Decided I'm past the trying to focus stage, but it's got a 28-560 zoom. My first foray into digital. Got to get with the program...the 21st century.

A little bit of self promotion in your profile photo? Well, it's warranted since your books are so good.

Oh, definitely better than basketball!

And look at you in that bitchin' skirt. Girl, you are a dancer for sure.
