A walk in the four o'clock hour

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

If the work keeps you bound to the desk (your mind clouded, your shoulder bones crunched, your fingertips hollow), do this, at least:  Wait for the hour in the day when the sun pours not down but through, and meet it halfway.

The weather forecasters promised us sunshine today. But other powers had a different scenario in mind. After an entire day of fog and mist, I looked up from my desk at 4:38 to see the sun finally shining through the last golden leaves on the tree branch outside.

For about 10 minutes, then, they were right.

I love the photo and your lyrical words. I went for a long walk this morning in the last of the leaves. It has been grey and wet for days. Please send some sunshine north!

I skipped swim practice today just so I could sit outside and watch the sun spill crimson over the clouds during the four o'clock hour. Not too good for my swimming, perhaps, but good for my soul.

I love this.

Sane advice that I should listen to.
