Remembering my mother on her birthday

Sunday, May 22, 2011

Today I remember my mother on her birthday. Her love of fine fabrics and fashion. Her kitchen artistry. Her green-flecked eyes.

Here she is, outside one of her favorite stores on Walnut Street. My father waits in the reflected glass. I lift my camera to my face.

It is the serenity of this photograph—her serenity—that so appeals to me.

Beth, this is a lovely photo of your very beautiful mother, and cool, too, with your father in the reflection. I'm thinking it will be a precious heirloom photo, to pass down the line!!

I have no idea why this is now under my "Mimi" account, which is my secondary, new gmail account. Might need to cancel that sucker. No one will recognize me as anything other than "patti.mallett_pp"....

She looks so classy and classic. What year is this? Was it taken on film with a 35mm? I'm asking because I am curious to know how long you have been taking pictures/making photographs, since you took this one.

Thank you, everyone, for seeing my mother's beauty. KFP — I believe this was taken in 1977, and I was using film back then. I've always had a camera near.

I probably should have been a photographer.
