Waiting for "Superman": heartbreaking. important.

Saturday, January 21, 2012

We talk about going out to see a movie, but it's cold and late and we don't.  We watch documentaries late at night instead, and last night we watched this one.

I could not sleep the rest of the night.  I was—in a word—heartbroken.  So many kids with dreams.  So many forces against them.

Please watch this movie, if you haven't.

Please reach out to a kid.

Be a bridge.

Help.

Count your own blessings.

I also recently saw The Lottery which is equally heartbreaking. So much needs to change...

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this, Beth! I had heard of it briefly before but had never stopped to think about it and watch it.

I watched the whole thing without stopping -- I am utterly captivated. The best adjective to describe it is just that: heartbreaking.

That title will stick with me forever, I think -- waiting for "Superman."

I've seen this powerful documentary...it is so heartbreaking...and so is The Lottery. I really wish that there was a way to ensure that all these kids receive the education that they deserve.

I fear for kids...they are not learning what they should be in the way that it should be taught...a friend of mine's daughter is being taught Spanish, but not the correct pronunciation of the words...how is this helpful? She is not even learning the alphabet and how the letters sound in Spanish. UGH

More needs to be done for kids--and I wonder if there was less worry where there is enough, if that energy could be then directed more usefully to help those in need.
