my mother's recipe book (I missed you today, Mom)

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Today I wrote about my mother's meals, her great talent in the kitchen.  I spent time poring over her original recipe book—all these newspaper clippings, hundreds of them.  She was an artist.  I have never, in all my life, tasted better food than hers.  I missed her very much today, for I could not ask her any questions.

I'm trying to ask my mother every question I can think of while I still have time. I know you must miss your mom - I often want to pick up the phone to talk my dad.

I have my mom's recipe box, too, and can pull it out any time and see her handwriting. It's a comfort knowing it's up in the closet with mine.

Let us know if you try the Pancake Crisps (or Krisps)- however they were spelling. They sound yummy!

It's strange how pangs of missing someone can surprise us. But we are blessed to have loved that much. Right?

Beth - you mentioned that you shouldn't type online before waking up. When I see a word that's wrong in something I've posted, I've started to practice not cringing. Then I smile and shrug, "So? I'm not perfect." - and it's beginning to work. :<)

Oh. This is so lovely. (The poring over not the missing.) Sending a hug to you.

As I said on Facebook, my nana would have been 97 on June 13...she was the great cook in the family, but it is unfortunate that she took many of her recipes with her....
