The Perfect Day

Thursday, November 13, 2008

This would be enough for me: A place to sit. Proximity to birds. Unsullied water. Reading weather. I'd carry a picnic of winesap apples, cheddar cheese, artisan bread, an almond chocolate bar (which I would eat in the smallest possible increments over the course of an entire day). People would stop by, every now and then, and tell me their stories. I'd be thinking my own thoughts the rest of the day. The sun would crawl across the sky; the sun would change the day's colors.

At night I'd travel back inside, into a necessarily cozy house. A fire crackling in the fireplace. A blanket tossed across the couch.

It would have wireless internet to continue blogging, right?
But yeah, the peace and solitude would be wonderful.

The photo and your post reminds me of how, when I unplug from the world, I feel a little wiggy for the first hours but then my mind uncoils.

Sounds like a fantastic day. Hope you get to enjoy a day like this before it gets too cold.

Ah, PJ, ATG, and Vivian: for a day I would go blogless. Then I'd rush right back here, of course — not quite a wiggy as I'd been to begin with. But today,I fear, it is wet and it is cold. I dodge the news, work on my novel.

I wouldn't personally want the birds that close by, but everything else sounds lovely.

More than 15 years ago I had a whole day on a recliner on a little spit of land surrounded by ocean on three sides (in Bar Harbor, ME), with books to keep me company. And I still think back on that day when I need peace. Guess I should find a better way to replicate it for real... Thanks for the reminder.

This reminds me of a girl here - she sits in the dining hall at a table by herself for lunch and dinner, with a sign that says "Tell me your story - fact or fiction - I'll tell you mine." And people do! I think it is the coolest thing.

Jen, I am laughing about those birds! Not too close. Yes. Hmmm. It's just that I want to take their photograph.

Cuileann: What do you think she does with the stories?

Holly said...

Well, my friend talked to her, and reports that this girl just wanted to hear some stories! So maybe all she does is enjoy them and remember some of them...

Wow. What a soul, Cuillean. People need to be listened to.
