My Natural State

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

Behind us the sun fell, and all that night, as we drove, I waited for the moon—scanned the skies as the music played, looking for a sliver. Rain fell. Rain stopped. We were the only car on the road. The lights of a city came into view, and then they vanished, and we were alone again, moonless.

My natural state, I have decided, is yearning. When all is quiet, when the child sleeps, my heart is scribbled with want.

That's a good feeling to have. Yearning, definitely.

Greetings from London.

Lovely. You capture how if we are listening hard, paying attention, we lean forward towards some future, flawed yet promising.

How lovely. And I find that is just the time when yearning subsides, and contentment occurs.

You are truly an exceptional person. I was just sitting here pondering your words and wondering what my natural state is. On the surface, it seems an easy question, but yet I am still pondering...it takes a real inner understanding to come up with that knowledge. That's what makes you such a great writer.
